The only reason I have any sort of sliver of hope for Glen Powell is RDJ in Tropic Thunder comparisons. Both released in the summer, have a showy multiple character type/ actor playing a performance meta-ness and had an opening in their categories that they could slide into. Although Supporting actor seems a little easier to do that with than Lead and 2009 had a very different performance criteria for what was nominated.

I found it preachy and boring. Ironically the most likeable and interesting character was that played by Ben Wishaw, but unfortunately he was just there to be told to shut up by the noble and brave women. I left after an hour.

Ok so here’s a crazy thought. And mind you this would require a lot of things to fall into place. What if Trap turns out to be upper tier Shyamalan and if Josh Hartnett is great in it to the point that he becomes a cultural talking point the way James McAvoy was with split? And what if the movie is a huge box office hit? Granted yes McAvoy wasn’t that close to a nom with split but he did manage to snag a few critics groups noms and for a horror movie with a January release. Trap doesn’t seem to have the supernatural elements in it either. So yes a huge long shot even if it does turn out to be a critically acclaimed blockbuster but it’s something to keep in mind. I guarantee his performance will be the main focus of the movie.

The only people hostile about this film are Dan Snyder (who funded the film and thought it was going to be flattering to Trump...Google Dan Snyder and criminal), Trump himself, and his cult. Having seen Piano Lesson on Broadway: definitely disagree with your assessment of John David Washington's role as a "straight man," and "everyone around him is bigger." That's not the character at all! He has a BIG firecracker personality, fast-talking, yelling, the whole shebang. His is the character that takes up the most air in the room.

I honestly don’t think Lady Gaga is even going to be nominated. Joker is a sequel which, historically, do not really do big business at Oscars. Plus, I don’t think the sequel is going to be as popular as the first. And, personally, I just don’t think Gaga is on the level of any of the other actresses on this list. Honestly I don't know if it was the directors intention or not but the main character comes off as a Sociopath - doesn't form bonds with people even after living with them a long time (isn't even worried about getting back to her family), never cries or shows empathy, leaves impulsively without warning once she gets bored with them or sees a better opportunity, deceives and manipulates those around her for her own gain or just for fun (makes people love her even when not trying), lies and takes on useful personality traits from the people she's met (seems to enjoy playing characters) and is uninterested in religion, art or philosophy: life is simply a game.
